For many years, the OMNINET Group has attached great importance to contributing to the improvement of its environmental footprint through concrete measures and to taking ecological and social responsibility into account in the course of its business activities. For the founding family, which is the sole owner of the entire OMNINET Group, this is not merely a buzzword, but has been a matter close to their hearts for many years. More than ten years ago, various measures were adopted within the OMNINET Group to reduce energy consumption, utilise renewable energy and minimise operational environmental impact. 

Environmental and climate protection considerations have therefore been part of the company’s internal guidelines for many years. In this context, various measures have been implemented through which the OMNINET Group aims to improve its environmental performance:

• Use of photovoltaic systems: Within the OMNINET Group, photovoltaic systems are used to generate electricity from renewable energy sources, thereby reducing the need to purchase electricity from other sources.
• Use of air-to-water heat pumps: Air-to-water heat pumps help us to reduce energy consumption for heating and hot water.
• Green electricity: OMNINET purchases a green electricity product from HEWA for its head office in Eckental. According to the electricity supplier’s information and the supporting documentation provided, the volume of electricity associated with this product comes from renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind power and/or photovoltaics.
• Energy recovery: The waste heat generated during the operation of the server infrastructure is used to heat office spaces via a heat pump installed in the server room.
• Regional energy suppliers: Wherever possible, the OMNINET Group gives preference to regional electricity suppliers and electricity products containing a proportion of renewable energy. In doing so, it supports regional suppliers and boosts demand for electricity from renewable sources.
• Supplier requirements: We require our suppliers, either contractually or through relevant supplier requirements, to comply with human rights and environmental due diligence standards. In this way, we work to ensure that social, ethical and environmental requirements are taken into account throughout our supply chain.
• Waste prevention: Through targeted measures, we promote waste prevention and use alternatives that generate less waste, such as air dryers instead of paper towels.
• Automated lawn care with robotic mowers: For lawn care, we use electric robotic mowers, which are more resource-efficient in operation than petrol-powered lawnmowers, as they do not burn fossil fuels.
• Promoting home office options: Flexible home working arrangements can reduce commuting journeys and thus help to cut commuting-related emissions.
   

An important factor in our operational carbon footprint is the origin of the electricity we purchase. For this reason, OMNINET sources electricity for its head office in Eckental from the regional electricity supplier HEWA (Hersbrucker Energie- und Wasserversorgung GmbH) and has opted for a green electricity product from them. 

According to the electricity supplier’s information, the volume of electricity allocated to the green electricity product is generated from renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind power and/or photovoltaics. The relevant TÜV certification and test documents confirm, in particular, that

• the amount of electricity allocated to the green electricity product comes from renewable energy sources,
• HEWA is classified as an independent supplier in energy procurement in accordance with the certification criteria,
• the promotion of renewable energy is a key objective of the electricity supply in accordance with the certification criteria,
• the requirements for electricity labelling and guarantees of origin are met in accordance with the relevant legal provisions,
• the renewable energy plants included meet the nationally applicable guidelines and requirements for landscape, nature and environmental protection in accordance with the certification criteria.
   

The generation of electricity from the renewable energy sources allocated to the green electricity product produces no direct CO₂ emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels and no radioactive waste from nuclear energy. By consciously choosing appropriate electricity products, we support the demand for renewable energy and pursue the goal of improving our operational environmental footprint.
